In the 19th century, arsenic was widely used to produce beautiful green and blue dyes and inks...we now know that is was a Bad Idea. Patterns in this collection are created from scans of the book "Shadows from the Walls of Death" by Robert Kedzie in the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The book is a set of collected arsenical wallpaper samples sent out to health departments in the 1870s to warn of the dangers of environmental exposure to arsenic. Sampled patterns are in the public domain. Restored and tiled layout of the elements are © Amelia Edwards.
