On a visit to Istanbul and Edirne, in Turkey, we admired the Ottoman tiles and the stained glass windows and the decorated doors and ceilings in old places and mosques. I found that I could take clipped pieces of the photographs and arrange them into symmetrical patterns using mirror and rotation and overlay modifications on a computer. From segments of those new patterns, I created nine-pointed stars and globes. I chose 16 of my favorite stars and 16 of the balls, and put them together in a square grid to create this pattern. The stars and orbs are closely packed together on a dark navy blue background.
