Thank you for stopping by, have an awesome day "Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel; 16 February 1834 - 9 August 1919 was a German zoologist, naturalist, eugenicist, philosopher, physician, professor, marine biologist and artist. He discovered, described and named thousands of new species, created a phylogenetic tree of all life forms and coined many terms in biology.Haeckel promoted and popularised Charles Darwin's work in Germany and developed the influential but no longer widely used recapitulation theory ("ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny"), which states that the biological development of a single organism parallels and summarises the evolutionary development of its species. Haeckel's published works include over 100 detailed, multi-coloured illustrations of animals and sea creatures collected in his book Art Forms of Nature, which would later influence the Art Nouveau art movement. As a philosopher, Ernst Haeckel wrote the books Die Welträtsel (1895-1899; in English: The Riddle of the Universe, 1901), which gave rise to the term "world riddle", and Freiheit in Wissenschaft und Unterricht (Freedom in Science and Teaching) to support the teaching of evolution.
