About the Design

A fleur-de-lis design with a metallic appearance on a dark blue background.

This design was inspired by Frans Pourbus the Younger's portrait of Marie de Médici, Queen of France (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frans_Pourbus_%28II%29_-_Portrait_of_Marie_de_M%C3%A9dicis_-_WGA18242.jpg), which he painted in 1611. The fabric in the original portrait was probably embroidered with golden threads (known as "goldwork"); for this printed fabric I imitated that look. The design is pretty similar to the one that can be seen in the 'Phoenix' portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elizabeth1_Phoenix.jpg), which I also have a printed version of in my Tudor/Elizabethan collection here on Spoonflower (http://www.spoonflower.com/collections/20669). I do recommend ordering this fabric in either the cotton silk (for a more shiny, satin-like look) or in cotton sateen (for a not-so-shiny look). The repeat of this design is 3.11 x 6.21inches on fabric and wall decals and 3x6 inches on wallpaper. In case you should need this design in different colors or at a different scale, please don't hesitate to send me a message! If you were always wondering how different colors print on the various fabrics that Spoonflower offers, please do have a look at my website where I have quite a few comprehensive photos of color swatches printed on various fabrics!
