About the Design

Hawaii's Queen, Liliu`okalani, the last monarch of Hawaii, peacefuly resisted the US businessmen who

ended her reign in 1893.

Hawaii`i's Queen, Liliʻuokalani, Lydia Liliʻu Loloku Walania Kamakaʻeha was born on September 2, 1838 and passed away on November 11, 1917. This period in Hawai`i was a time of great change for the island and it's people. My family was here in Hawaii when she was taken off the thrown. It was a very sad time for many... and still is. This image is printed on it's side in order to optimize space when printed on wallpaper. This way I can print it and cut it into individual images and then frame it. I also and experimenting with mounting these onto a large canvas and adding collage techniques to create a lovely unique piece for my art display. One of the images behind the queen is her famous quilt. The Queen and two of her friends started to make it while she was imprisoned at Iolani Palace. It was finished after the Queen returned to her home at Washington Place. The Queen felt that it was important to sew her memories into her quilt.
