I have always adored everything about the beach. The smell of beach roses, the taste of salt on the lips, the mesmerizing movement of the waves, and the workout from running in the sand all enliven the senses, so very grounding. And of course, there is always the anticipation of finding that special seashell or rock, truly one of the best treasure hunts out there. It is always intriguing to see what the sea has left behind. Additionally, the wildlife is a source of constant fascination and rarely disappoints. As a child, my brothers and I would race down inlets in hot pursuit of yellowlegs or sandpipers in hopes of trying to catch one. They always seemed just within reach. Now I am amused by their movements and quietly try to sneak up on them in hopes of catching that perfect shot with my camera. Better yet, catch one catching dinner! The “other” side of the dunes offers a slower pace, a bit of protection from the raw ocean side elements and abundant opportunities to capture birds hiding in marsh grasses. Such was the inspiration for the trip to the beach contest design.
