The five moons are five Native American ballerinas, all born in Oklahoma, who danced during the 20th century. They were Yvonne Choteau (Shawnee tribe), Rosella Hightower (Choctaw tribe), Moscelyn Larkin (Peoria and Shawnee), Maria Tallchief (Osage) and her sister Marjorie Tallchief (Osage). Of these five ballerinas, only Marjorie is still alive. These graceful women danced all over the world. George Balanchine created dances for Maria Tallchief.
