This design is tightly woven strands outlining the edge-centred 1st-order stars of the semi-regular grid of octagons and squares and then subdivided into 3. The strand width has to be (√2 - 1)² / √2 of the unit cell size to exactly meet at the turning points. Currently displaying a centred cell version in plain black on white.
