Coelacanths are neat, plus it's fun to say (just try it, see-la-canth!) Presumed extinct until 1938, coelacanths are considered living fossils since they are largely unchanged from 60 million year old fossilized examples. The two known species of this ancient fish are among the rarest creatures on the planet. Coelacanths are highly maneuverable due to their cool leg-like fins, their bodies are covered in armored scales, and they can grow to over six feet long.
