About the Design

Birds and flowers abound in this historic faux embroidery pattern.

This design was made using photographed motifs from a bodice worn by Mary, Queen of Scots, during the 16th century. The embroidery was done with colored silks and silver gilt, and is in exceptional condition! The resulting designs are historically accurate for costuming from the Tudor era (though in the queen's honor, we encourage you to resist the meddling English and call it the Scottish Reformation period). All the designs derived from this piece of history can be found in the Queen of Scots Embroidery Collection, linked at the right of the page.
