I figured mermaids should do more with their time than lounge on the sand waiting for their princes to come or staring of dramatically into the distance. If I were a mermaid and had to spend time hanging out on a beach, I'd be reading! There's nothing like the clean, salt air to get you in the mood for a good story. The original was done in watercolor in my sketchbook, then scanned, arranged, and edited in photoshop and indesign. The background color is digital.
