From as early as the sixteenth century magnificent depictions of waves crashing on rocky shores were painted on folding screens known as "rough seas screens". Historically, the constant cycle of waves has signified serenity as well as powerful ferocity and resilience. The endless ebb and flow of water along the shore is a permanent reminder of both the passing of time as well as the hazardous power of the ocean. The slippery fishes floating in the rough waves signify perseverance, strength and steadfastness in the face of adversity. As main background color the Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue (Color of the Year 2020) was used. This elegant, contemporary blue hue adds depths, energy and marine feel to the pattern.
