Maria Anna Mozart 1751 - 1829 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1756 - 1791 Maria Anna Mozart (often called Nannerl) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were two gifted musicians. During their childhood the Mozart siblings performed together as child prodigies and on posters and newspaper articles it was Nannerl’s name that came first. Sadly the elder sister Nannerl’s existence has been largely ignored by her celebrated brother’s numerous biographers. But just like her brother she wrote music too. Even though none of her compositions has survived to the present day, her younger brother Wolfgang makes clear reference to her compositions in letters that he wrote to her where he also encourages her to compose more music. Wolfgang also greatly appreciated Nannerl’s virtuosity. He often asked for her opinion on his music and referred to her as “my sister, the one with real talent”. This design was created to lift Nannerl out of her brothers shadows. Let's remember them together like the team-working siblings they actually were.
