I have been at Spoonflower for close to 5 years now. Until 2 days ago I thought "rococo" and "baroque" were interchangeable adjectives. In doing some research for the rococo challenge in March of 2021 I discovered that's not the case. Rather, rococo is a style that evolved from the baroque. Both styles are rich with ornamentation and decorations. Here's where they differ: rococo designs are generally light, airy, decorative and pastel. Baroque designs, on the other hand, are serious, dramatic and heavy. For the March 5th Spoonflower challenge of 2021 the theme is rococo. As I worked on the design I thought of rococo principles but also left room for some contemporary whimsy and used digital tools. Octopi friends wear matching blue Stetsons hats . If you look closely you will also see a shy seahorse or two. This whimsical design is aimed at children and would be fun for a Minky throw blanket or a set of curtains. In a smaller scale it will also be useful for table napkins or place mats, etc. Just ask if you want another size. copyright - Mary Beglau Wykes - March 2, 2021
